2013 Quarterly Check-In

March 19, 2013August 25, 2015 Crystal // Dreams, etc. 2 comments

Hello! Remember me? Sorry about being a bit of a stranger lately. I don’t even know what I’ve been up to, but I today I realized that I haven’t posted since February and we’re halfway through March already.

Quarterly Check-In

Two weeks ago I missed the quarterly goals check-in over at YA Highway but I liked the idea so I still wanted to do a check in anyway. I didn’t set many specific goals at the beginning of the year. In the past I’ve always reexamined my goals throughout the year and tweaked them as I saw fit so this year I decided I’d set monthly goals at the beginning of the month. But, I haven’t really set any specific goals at the beginning of the month yet. Maybe that’s part of the reason I haven’t accomplished as much as I thought I would at this point. Also, writing was really difficult at the beginning of the year. I’m not entirely sure why, other than that it happens from time to time. But more on that at a later time. Because of that, writing was slow going for awhile. I think I’m finally picking up my pace, though, and that feels really good!
In terms of my reading goals, I am currently five books behind but I have made a lot of progress in catching up. I don’t think I’ll catch up by the end of the month, but I should be able to in April.
Since I didn’t set specific goals for the month, I thought that I’d set some goals for the rest of the month.

Writing Goals

  1. Send The Porcelain Doll to my beta readers. I was hoping to have this done at the beginning of the month but editing has been slower than I expected and I’ve been making changes that I know are making the novel stronger so I’m okay with the fact that it isn’t out yet. But I am close to sending it out!
  2. Write 5,000 words for Untitled I. I was going to make this higher, but I don’t want to main focus to be The Porcelain Doll. If I’m able to do more than the 5,000 I definitely will!

Reading Goals

I’d like to get as caught up as possible. I am currently reading The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd and I love it! The next books on my list to read are (in no particular order):
  1. Cracked Up to Be, by Courtney Summers
  2. Out of the Easy, by Ruta Sepetys
  3. The Ruining, by Anna Collomore
  4. Hysteria, by Megan Miranda
  5. Blaze (or Love in the Time of Supervillains), by Laurie Boyle Crompton
  6. The Painted Girls, by Cathy Marie Buchanan
We’ll see how many of these I can get through by the end of the month.
What about you? Have you made any goals for this month?

OUT OF THE EASY is amazing – I hope you enjoy it. And I'm dying to read Courtney Summers' book, too.

I had a hard time writing at the beginning of the year, too. Now that spring is just around the corner, I'm hopeful that I'll find my stride again. I usually get more creative when the flowers bloom – must be that spring awakening thing. 🙂 Good luck with your goals!

On this day I was tired after a long week and my least favorite holiday. My bed was oh so comfortable. I forced myself to roll out of bed and journey to the dam. It was filled with people and I was pokey…taking my time to get there and even journeying down one of the other paths to avoid walking across the dam. (Which isn’t long.) I finally joined the crowd and walked across. And then came back, happy to have made my weekly journey. This is when the top layer of the water started to freeze.
