Hello! *waves*
It’s been awhile since I’ve been here (shortly after vowing to stick to a blogging schedule). It’s not because I’ve forgotten about this blog, it’s that I’ve been busy with work and editing. This blog has been in the back of mind and I’ve been meaning to update for awhile. The funny thing is that today while I was at work I decided that I would definitely update today and when I got home I had an e-mail with a comment from Julia at The “Thank You” Project on a previous post. Whenever I take an unplanned hiatus she always comments on the days that I make plans to post!
With this post I thought I’d tell you about what I write. I’m always vague when I discuss my writing, so this will just give a general idea, not specifics.
Novels. I love to write novels because it gives me a chance to follow a character through a certain situation without the length constraints of a short story. I have written three but am only focusing my attention on two of them now. The other was written during high school and my writing changed a lot while I wrote it. Out of the two that I’m focusing my attention on now, I am breaking one up into chapters (I wrote it without chapter breaks) and I am working on editing the other. I don’t have a genre that I stick to, but I have always been drawn to mysteries and fantasy (not of the vampire variety) with a bit of family drama thrown into the mix.
Short Stories. I wrote a lot of short stories while I was in 7th and 8th grade but stopped until I started attending university three years ago and I took a fiction writing class. We wrote one short story that semester and I enjoyed taking the time to take an idea that wasn’t novel material (meaning, I wasn’t willing to turn this particular idea into a novel or it seemed better suited to be a shorter piece) and putting it down on paper. Since that class, I have continued to write short stories.
Poetry. I have always been fascinated by poetry but was somewhat frightened of it until I took a few classes. I grew to love it! And so, I’ve continued to write it.
Like I said, it’s a vague description of what I write. If I get more detailed, it’s usually with close friends or family over a cup of coffee or tea.
Let’s see if this week I can actually post more than once! I do have a busy week, preparing the house for the arrival of a new couch and of dogs but I have posts already written and saved on my computer, waiting to be posted.
LOL, I have no idea how I do this! 🙂
As for your writing, it's awesome that you had a chance to take classes on more than one type of writing – it's always good to try yourself at different things!! And I like the family drama idea 🙂
