From here on out, there will be more holiday-related posts for the rest of Blogmas. On deck today: holiday make-up.
I love doing my hair and putting on make-up and I tend to plan both of those things before I even think about what I’ll wear for the holidays. I usually don’t even think about an outfit until my mom comes to me with ideas. It’s a good thing she knows me well!
I love a red lip, especially during the holidays, and I think that MAC makes some of the best! I love their lipsticks so much and completely trust the opinions of the make-up artists that I have encountered, so I always visit them when I want a bold lip. Of course, for the holidays I have tried and true lipsticks that I pull out. My faves are Ruby Woo and Russian Red. Both have a matte finish, so it’s important to use a lip balm before application and lip liners also help for a clean look. I use MAC Cherry (not pictured).
With such a bold lipstick, I like to tone down the eyes so this year, I’ll be reaching for the Boudoir Eyes palette from Too Faced. It’s a gorgeous neutral palette and, as with all Too Faced palette’s, there are nine eye shadows that are broken down into three looks: day, classic, fashion. I’ve had no problem mixing and matching between all three looks and with this palette I know that I’ll have everything I need to create a “my eye but better” look or a smokey eye. These palette’s are also great for beginners because they have instructions for application.
When I wear a red lip, I need to have some black eyeliner. I’ve actually been staying away from lining the waterline and just use a pencil brush to put some eye shadow along my lower lash line for a little definition. I still like to have black eyeliner along my upper lash line, though. The NYX Collection Noir Liquid Black Eyeliner has moved me into the love/hate relationship territory with liquid eyeliner. I’m so glad that ipsy put this into my glam bag one month. If I want a pencil liner instead of liquid, I’ll probably reach for MAC Feline. This is a nice black and I absolutely love the color, but this is one that needs to stay far, far away from the waterline. It smudges like CRAZY!
My mascara of choice lately has been the Cover Girl Flamed Out mascara in Very Black Blaze. It gives my lashes enough shape to perk up my eyes a bit but not look over-the-top. Thanks to my coworker for the recommendation!
I finally have an interest in blush! That’s right, this former blush hater has finally developed an appreciation for it! You may remember from past Beauty Talk posts that the redness in my cheeks has always made me stay far away from blush, however this year I found a great skincare routine that has really toned down the redness. I celebrated by picking up the new Rockateur blush from Benefit and I love it! It’s a gorgeous pink that adds just the right amount of color.
And last, but not least, nail polish. I always have my nails painted and at this time of year, I reach for reds and dark polishes. The two that I’ve been alternating between lately are Essie Shearling Darling (a dark red) and Zoya Isla (a deep red shimmer).
What make-up do you like to wear during the holiday season?
Note: As always, I purchased the make-up listed in this post.
