It’s been awhile since I wrote a post that was dedicated to TV, so I thought it was time to share! Here are a few of the shows I’ve been watching lately. All of these are available on Netflix; that’s where I’ve been watching them.
THE FALL
Gillian Flynn and Jamie Dornan (aka Mr. Christian Grey) star in this mystery series about a man who’s stalking and murdering women in Belfast and the detective who is trying to track this down.
We started watching this during downtime at the hostel while we were in Montana. I like mysteries, although a lot of the draw of mysteries for me is trying to figure out whodunnit. I wasn’t sure if I’d like a mystery in which I knew who the murderer was from the start, but it didn’t take me long to get drawn into the story. To be able to see the detective and the murderer live their lives while everything was happening was a unique dynamic. I thought The Fall was similar to The Killing, in how much they delve into the lives of the main characters and the quiet quality of the show. Just a warning to those who have an active imagination, like I do, this show is incredibly creepy in parts. There were times as I watched it that I was incredibly aware of my surroundings while walking around the house.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Kyle Chandler stars as the coach of a high school football team in Texas.
I know, I know, I’m a bit behind the times with this one. I never really thought a show about football would appeal to me, as there’s nothing about football that interests me, but it’s been on my to-watch list for one reason: Kyle Chandler. Need I say more? I actually wasn’t sure if I liked this show until I stayed up really late one night to watch more episodes. I wouldn’t say that I love it as much as other people do, but I have been enjoying it because 1) Kyle Chandler; 2) some of the characters have really stood out to me so I love following their storyline; and 3) Kyle Chandler. I’m almost done with season one.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan who star as a detective and a man who was the subject of an experiment that later altered his DNA so that he turns into a beast.
I have mixed feelings about this show. On the one hand, I love the premise and am always drawn into the storyline. On the other, I don’t think it’s the best show out there. I only watched the last half of season two, which is where I left off last time I started to watch it. I really like the premise and some of the characters. Some of the dialogue, however, is really cheesy. My biggest complaint is the path that one of the characters goes on in the second season. I didn’t think it was necessary and would have liked to have seen something different.
