Currently Watching // May

So. I’ve watched a couple of things this month in an attempt to stop thinking about how awesome and addictive Scandal is (it didn’t work) and wait until the third season was available on Netflix instead of buying it from Amazon (totes worked). When I received the email from Netflix saying that season three was available the flowers began to bloom and the birds began to chirp and the planets aligned. Okay, none of that happened, but I was pretty stoked and so relieved that I didn’t buy it the night before, since I almost did. Luckily I fell asleep before that happened.

Anyway, what I’ve been watching.
1. Orange is the New Black. I breezed through this in about a week and loved it. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, but it was a great distraction! I really loved how we got to see each of the characters through Piper’s perspective of just seeing prisoners when she first got there, but as the episodes progressed she (and we) got to know more about them and see their complexity. I really grew to love most of the characters and I can’t wait to learn more about them. And that ending!! June whenever-season-two is available can’t come soon enough!
2. House of Cards. I’m not done with this yet, but wow. I don’t feel like I’m far enough into it to have opinions yet, but Kevin Spacey is amazing.
3. Being Human. I’m planning to watch the UK version, but I started with the US version because I watched half of the first season when it first aired. I remember thinking it was just okay back then, but now I love it! I just started the second season, but am taking a little break to watch Scandal.
4. Scandal. As if this show wasn’t dramatic enough before, season three is even more so. I think I’ve talked about this before, but I watch TV while I do things around the house, but with this show I just want to sit there and watch. That is so rare for me. I think part of the reason that I love it so much is that I enjoy watching the actors do their thing, especially Kerry Washington, Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn. Since all I want to do is watch, I have only been watching an episode in the evening once I finish all my work for the day. Restraint, I have some.
5. Movies. I watched one. I finally watched Beautiful Creatures. I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but I enjoyed it. I thought some of the effects would be cooler than they actually were… like the dining room. But that didn’t bother me, I just noted it. I thought the movie was beautifully filmed. The changes that they made during the adaptation didn’t bother me. Yes, I liked the book better. I always do. But I was only bothered by changes in one book-to-movie adaptation (A Walk to Remember). I think there was a lot of book to try to fit into the movie and that’s where it fell short; it could have been longer. But I really enjoyed it and when the credits rolled I was hoping there’d be a second. I’m not sure there will be, but if there is I would buy it.
