One thing that still amazes me after all of my years of living in Minneapolis is the waterfall in the city. Minnehaha Falls is a gorgeous waterfall along the Mississippi River and one of my favorite places in Minneapolis.

I posted pictures a few years ago of the waterfall during the summer. I’m hoping to go again this year when the weather is nice and will take more pictures to share, but one thing that I have always wanted to do is visit Minnehaha Falls during the winter when the water is frozen. My friend Sarah and I decided that we should explore our city this year and started by visiting the waterfall.

It was so different to be there during winter, when you don’t hear the roar of the waterfall. It’s cool to see how the water froze, though. We were hoping to walk down the stairs to get a little bit closer to the waterfall, but the stairs were blocked off.

There were a lot of people who went down anyway, but they were basically holding onto the railing and sliding down the stairs because they were covered in snow and ice. Sarah and I didn’t necessarily mind the idea of the slide down the stairs, but we didn’t want to have to find our way back up. We were glad that we didn’t go down when we watched people attempt the stairs. One lady gave up and climbed through the snow to get to the top–with a dog! We felt so bad the little pug.

If you’re ever in Minneapolis I highly recommend stopping by Minnehaha Falls. It’s an awesome sight–in summer and in winter.
