Ever since I was young, I have loved dance. I didn’t take a lot of dance classes when I was a child (although I did take some), but when I was older I continued to take dance classes, trying out ballroom and belly dance.
On Inspiration
My love of dance has greatly inspired my writing and I tend to my put my characters into situations in which they must dance. Dancing is one of the main topics of my poetry, as well. So I don’t think it’s a surprise to people that know me that So You Think You Can Dance is one of my favorite TV shows. I love Wednesday and Thursday summer nights, when I can watch my favorite choreographers (Travis Wall and Tyce Diorio to name a few) work with inspiring, young dancers.
Emmy nominations came out today and SYTYCD choreographers took all but one of the nominations. (The other went to Mark Ballas, one of my favorite pro dancers from Dancing With the Stars!) I spent the evening digging up the dances that each of the nominees were nominated for.
A few of my favorites include:
How It Ends, choreographed by Travis Wall and performed by Kent and Neil.
Outta Your Mind, choreographed by Tabitha and Napolean and performed by Alex and tWitch.
Fix You, choreographed by Travis Wall and performed by Robert and Allison.
If you watch SYTYCD, what are your favorite nominated dances?
And what inspires your creative pursuits?
