I’ve been in the editing pit for the last week and I’m hoping to finish this process soon. Editing gets to be tedious for me, but it is necessary for me to go through my manuscripts and smooth corners and interpret late night passages that are filled with wrong words and rambling sentences (much like this one).
On Reading a Book Series
Today I come with a question for all of you. When you read a book series, do you read each book in a row or do you space them out?
I tend to space them out, with the exception of two that I can remember. About four years ago I discovered the coffeehouse mystery series by Cleo Coyle. After reading the first book, I went out to buy the rest and read them all straight through. I was housesitting for my sister in her big, 1920’s house as I read most of the books and let me tell you, those old houses make a lot of noise! Those noises combined with mysteries had my imagination running rampant each night!
Most recently, I’ve been reading the Pretty Little Liars series, which I first heard about last summer when I learned that Holly Marie Combs (aka Piper from Charmed) and Lucy Hale (aka, the nice sister in that TV show with Cheyenne from Reba*) were playing mother and daughter on a new TV show. Of course, I had to tune in and once I did, I was hooked! I decided to read the books as well and have been racing through those.
But, as I said, usually when I start reading a new book series, it takes me awhile to work my way through. It doesn’t mean that I don’t like the series. Oftentimes I love it! But there is so much out there to read and I like to space them out so that I can enjoy my first reading of the books over a period of time. I’m the same way with my favorite authors, like with Anita Shreve. I absolutely love her books and her writing, but I haven’t read all of her books yet.
So, what about you? Do you read a series all at once or space it out over time?
* I looked it up and the nice sister was Rose and that TV show with Cheyenne from Reba was called Privileged.
Humm, I don't seem to have read many book series, but I believe that when I do I read a book after another in a row. That's if I like the books and of I don't, it's quite possible I might still finish what I started (I call it paying due respect to the author and finishing his/her work before judging it), but I just won't pick up the next one.
