“Picture it…Sicily!”
If you watch or have watched The Golden Girls, these words should sound familiar. After saying these words, Sophia (or, more affectionately, “Ma”) would always evoke a memory from her past. “Picture it…!”
But what about your future? What about all that you would like to accomplish in your life? What about picturing those events?
I once heard that after finishing a yoga practice, while lying in savasana, you should picture yourself in your future. You should picture your hopes and dreams and, most importantly, you should picture yourself living your dreams.
I’ve always been a dreamer and picturing myself living out my dreams has never been a problem for me. But so often something comes up to pull me out of those daydreams or the worries and fears that so often plague people sink in. So, I always make sure to lie in savasana when I finish a yoga practice, and when I do, I always envision myself living out my dreams. I think it’s refreshing and important to have that regular period of time to dream uninterrupted, to let good feelings and good images wash over me, to picture myself doing exactly what it is that I want to do with my life. I often feel rejuvenated and inspired.
These moments don’t have to be had after yoga. They can be taken anywhere, whether it’s lying on the couch with music playing in the background, or while sipping a hot cup of coffee as the sun starts to peek out of the clouds in the early hours of the morning. But I do believe that these moments should be taken.
Picture it! What do you see?
