The Red Shoes (1948)

January 16, 2012August 25, 2015 Crystal // Dreams, etc. 4 comments

Anyone who knows me knows that I love dance movies. Good, bad or ugly, if it’s a movie and dancing is a major theme, I’m going to watch it and I’m going to like it. My favorite dance movies include ballet as the major style of dance, which is why I’m surprised that it has taken me this long to watch The Red Shoes, a British film about ballerina Vicky Page, who is on her way to becoming a star when she falls in love with the composer of her ballet. The director of the ballet is jealous when he learns of the romance and tries to keep them apart. The Red Shoes has one of the most impressive (and longest) ballet sequences that I have ever seen onscreen and it is absolutely beautiful.

This film reminded me, in some general ways, to Black Swan. If you enjoyed that film, I am sure that you will enjoy this one.

I found it while browsing Netflix. It was a great movie, if you're able to find a copy of it!
