After work tonight I went out to pick up some sustenance: books for the week. Or, one book as I already had the others. I have a few books on the docket this week and they all have a theme: mermaids.
The Mermaid’s Mirror, by L. K. Madigan. I started read this one while at work today. (While on break, I wasn’t reading while I was on the clock! Picture me as Rory Gilmore, reading with her headphones during lunch. Without the headphones.) Anyway, I didn’t get very far into the book yet, but what I have read has me intrigued. I’m really excited to continue! So let’s make this post short and snappy, shall we?
Mermaid, by Carolyn Turgeon. Isn’t the cover of this book absolutely gorgeous? I brought it home, pulled it out of the bag and just stared at it for awhile. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also a retelling of one of my favorite stories from my childhood, The Little Mermaid. Granted, this might be based more closely on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale than the Disney music-fest, but I love both, so I’m definitely looking forward to devouring this book!
Lost Voices, by Sarah Porter. This novel appears to have more of a darker take on mermaids and I’m excited to delve into that. As much as I love the enchanting, romantic side of mermaids, historically (in literature) there’s also a darker side to them and I like to see that being explored.
What are you reading this week?
This comment is a little late, but Mermaid is SO good!! I love that it more closely related to the original but also had it's own twists. I LOVED it. Did you finish it?
